Talode is a small city and municipal council, located in the Nandurbar district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. According to India Census 2011, Talode had a population of 26,363 and an average literacy rate of 60%, which was higher than the national average of 59.5%. While male literacy is at 68%, female literacy is at just 52%. About 13% of the population is under the age of 6 years in Talode.
Talode is a part of the Taloda Taluk, which consists of 52 panchayats and 111 villages. Borad is the biggest village, while Halapur is the smallest village over here. Situated at an elevation of 1200 feet, Talode lies at the boundary of Nandurbar and Surat district. It is near the Gujarat State Border.
According to the legend, during their journey to conquer the city of Surat, King Shivaji and his forces used to rest on the banks of River Tapti. This gave a unique name to this place and hence, the name Talode, which means ‘a place for halt’. The nearest tourist spots to Talode are Nandurbar, Malvan, Kevadia-Narmada and Toranmal.
